I haven't been sewing much for myself. Although it was a quiet month, I launched a new t-shirt for girls so that took up some of my sewing time. And my other half had his birthday at the end of the month. I also travelled home for a couple of days for a family matter, and picked up a few fabrics for myself.
At the beginning of the month, I made myself a wrap dress. I used the Zadie Jumpsuit bodice and added a gathered rectangle. Initially the dress had a second tier of gathered fabric but due to the twill weave, I felt the weight of the fabric dragged the skirt down a bit. Also getting the gathered tiers ratio right is important to the look. And I should have made the first tier shorter and the second tier longer - next time (I am working on it).
While my husband was away, I sewed up his birthday presents - 3 t-shirts. The fabrics had been in my stash for at least 1 if not even more. I used the Metro Tee by Liesl & Co which I have used previously a few times. Hopefully I get to a few pictures and I share them next month with you.
I made another Charlie Caftan in the softest Rayon I have ever used. It's a Rayon from Art Gallery Fabrics which I bought from Mazz Fabrics locally in Dubai. This is the first Rayon that is OEKO-Tex certified. Normally Rayon/Viscose can be quite bad for the environment since the soaps and chemicals used can be released into neighbouring streams. OEKO-Tex means that no harmful dyes were used in during the production.
I am currently working on two projects: one more gift for my husband and a dress to wear for his birthday brunch. I am not sure if I have enough time to sew both - I might have to be selfish and finish mine :) Will see ... update: I was selfish and finished mine first. I hacked the Zadie Jumpsuit from Thread Theory into a dress with elastic and two tiers of gathered fabric to make the skirt.
And here are the two fabrics I bought in Germany and my plans. Both fabrics are Rayon/Viscose. The striped fabric is a Rayon Crepe and I am planning to make another pair of culottes with it. And the navy Rayon with abstract print, I would like to make a simple faux wrap dress with elastic. Since navy suits me so well, I want this to be an everyday dress.
And that's it for this month. Next month, I am planning to make a few Christmas presents and a dress that will keep me a bit warmer over the Christmas holidays n Scotland.
What have you been sewing this month? What are your plans? Comment below.
Thanks for hanging out with me.
Happy Sewing,
