January & February: What have I been sewing?

Updated: Jun 12, 2019

In January, my makers drive took a break and I only started sewing in at the end of the month. In February I started working on my boys collection. The photoshoot happened at the beginning of February.

I sewed couple of samples for the photoshoot and later that month started creating stock. If you are subscribed to my mailing list, you will be the first to hear about the launch.

Meanwhile, I had finished another sample for my dressmaking 3 course - The Fancy Dress. My friend modeled the dress for me and she looks absolutely gorgeous in it.

For me, I sewed myself some lounge pants with golden cherry prints. Two Alex Shirt Dresses, one in a polka-dot chambray and another one in berry-colored cotton linen look. These two dresses I have already worn a lot, they are definitely a wardrobe staple. These dresses, in particular the fabric made me realise I need more neutral colors and plain fabrics in my wardrobe.

Finally I made myself a pencil case (or three) to start cleaning up and organising my handbag. Which served as a sample for my weekly kids sewing club and also a travel neck pillow. I lost mine some time ago (for the second time) and didn't feel like spending any more money on it. So I was quite pleased to sew one up which will also be part of my sewing summer camp. It was a simple and quick project.

I also sewed a sample for my Dressmaking 1 course - The Skirt. With this garment, I realised I am not a fan of skirts. I don't wear them often, most of the times I don't know what to wear with them and I don't find them super practical. I love the pattern and the fabric I used (you may recognise the fabric from a previous garment) but just not on me. It was good that I sewed this up and that I came to this conclusion.

And last, I sewed up a really nice caftan dress which I hope to turn into a course. The pattern is actually really quick and easy to sew. The two tricky parts are the front panel and working with fabrics with drape. Stay tuned on this potential workshop. Picture to follow, I promise, or follow me on my social media.

I have two projects cut out - and one day of February to go. So it will either be a toile of my jumpsuit or another Alex Shirt Dress in a black rayon. You'll see the finished garment in my next summary.

What have you been sewing this month?

Thanks for hanging out with me.
